If you think you have a great idea but can’t get anyone else to buy in, you might want to flip through Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die, by Chip Heath and Dan Heath. The two brothers (one’s a business school professor, the other’s a business consultant) have come up with a simple formula to help turn ideas into powerful tools for action. Their formula for “success” is based on six principles:

* Simple – Get to the core of your message and stay there

* Unexpected – Provide surprising information that makes your audience curious

* Concrete – Be specific; paint a mental picture

* Credible – Use authorities, statistics and details to validate your message

* Emotional – Don’t be a cold fish (well, those are my words); tell people what’s in it for them

* Stories – Help people visualize your message through stories they can relate to

The book is a short, quick read. But if you’re too pressed for time to page through it, at least download their handy “Made to Stick Success Model,” print it out, and post it near your desk somewhere. It’s worth referring to a couple of times a day.
