"Artists for the Climate" Use Concert to Tackle Coal
It was the hottest ticket in town – literally.
Grammy-winning singers joined award-winning writers and rap artists at a Washington, DC concert to raise awareness about climate change and the coal burning that causes it.
How much interest in such a topic could there possibly be? Plenty, if the fifteen hundred boisterous people in the audience were any indication.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on a ticket; you can read my take on the evening from an activist’s perspective here.
My take-away as a business person is this: anyone who has the option to power her company with renewable resources like wind, biomass, and solar, should do so, and the sooner the better. Using coal to generate electricity is becoming a badge of shame. Activists, scientists, artists, concerned citizens and supportive legislators like the ones attending the concert are strongly committed to letting the world know how dirty coal really is. Their mantra? “No More Coal.”
Companies that want to be socially and environmentally responsible should get at least a portion of their power from clean renewable sources. Contact your local power provider to switch your energy source to a cleaner fuel.
(FYI – I’m 100% wind-powered!)
